Iro Kivi

Iro Kivi is a visual artist based in Tampere, Finland. Originally she specialised in video art, but these days she mainly paints. Her work deals with humanity and mankind, and their reflection on animals and the cosmos. She paints mainly with acrylics, on large canvases.

"How to explain. I am interested in ideas of existence. So often we say that people humanize animals, but I would say animals humanize people. It means, as long as people are not able to treat animals right, they are not humanized. So, I don't paint people or animals basically at all, I paint the idea of an human being connected to the idea of an animal and the idea of the cosmos. I look forward to see a human being humanized, so I just keep painting that."
